A radiant smile and polite nod are the most common greeting when encountering Ms. Patel. She takes each day as a chance to deepen her relationships with friends while enjoying the freedom this setting brings to senior adults.
Having lived most of her life in Bharuch, Gujarat India, Savitaben raised 4 children with her husband. In 1990, her husband passed and her daughter left to be married in the United States. While continuing to care for her three children, she grieved her loss and was relieved to have the opportunity to relocate in 1993 to the USA to be reunited with her daughter. Since then, her other children have come to live here as well.
After 17 years living with her daughter, she found the DCT community in 2012 and quickly adjusted to independent life outside her family’s home. Branching out to shop, wash clothes and make new friends, Ms. Patel found delight in the opportunity to have her own apartment while living close by to family. She continues to be a part of a strong social network attending an Adult Day Center daily. As she celebrates her 82nd birthday, Savitaben finds enjoyment to do it ‘her way’ in the small apartment she calls home. As a resident of DCT, she engages in activities of celebration, never missing her Birthday Celebration lunch, Senior Prom and Thanksgiving.
