Resident Spotlight- Joyce Reeves " THIS is my time"
Residing in Decatur again is a decision that has been a long time coming for Joyce Reeves. After many chapters that included a long marriage, a family, a career and childcare for grandchildren, Joyce chose DCT to start a new chapter. This goal with this one is to do what she wants to do when she wants to do it. Almost two years later, Joyce is up early working at the DCT front desk for a shift and will go to her church later in the afternoon where she has been a member for more than 20 years. She likes helping people and open to discovering how to do that best each day. She helps in many different areas of the community, which bring her joy. There is more choice in when she helps and how much she does it. “This,” she says referring to making home at DCT, “has been a good change.” The DCT Resident Association is one avenue she has chosen to help. This renewed association is working with the entire community to channel the consolidated resident voice to define additional ways this community can serve each other. Her career in administrative work including nine years with Ernst and Young serve the council’s needs. She visits her family and grandchildren who remain nearby. Her phone will quickly swipe to photos of cute little faces that she enthusiastically shares. This new balance of family, work and ‘me’ time is working out and promises to be an exciting chapter.
