Resident Spotlight:
Orville "Pat" Patterson
The breezes of Jamaica refresh our DCT lobby through the presence of resident Orville Patterson. Better known as “Pat,” his smile and gait transport one to the sands of Jamaican beaches.
Pat approaches each day with opportunities to play a game, help a friend or volunteer. A leader of our Friday coffee crossword puzzles, he is also known to be available late at night for the person who needs a ride or a listening ear. With a quiet presence, it is easy to miss the long journey Mr. Patterson has crossed during the last 81 years. Born in Jamaica, he came to Arizona after obtaining his degree from Kingston College. Working in Arizona, he was recruited for military service in the Korean conflict. Serving time in Germany and France, he learned many new things and enjoyed the expanding horizons of his tour. He returned from military service to Long Island New York and began work with the telephone company. Transferred to Atlanta in 1978, he moved with much trepidation of the South. As years have passed, Pat is the first to say that things have changed and true friends have made all the difference to finding his place in this city. While he retired from a long career as a Plant Engineer with AT&T/ BellSouth in 1991, he stays on top of his game building computers as a hobby. Making friends at DCT since 2013, Pat is well regarded by all. He has a son and a daughter who add spice to his life and is always excited about what comes next. |
