1. How old do you have to be to live at Decatur Christian Towers?
    The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has designated Decatur Christian Towers as a senior living facility. You must be at least 62 to live at Decatur Christian Towers.

  2. Do you accept disabled individuals?
    If a person is disabled and over 62 years old, he/she is eligible to live at Decatur Christian Towers. Disabled people under the age of 62 are not eligible to live at Decatur Christian Towers.

  3. Is eligibility based on income?
    There are upper and lower income limits that may determine an applicant’s eligibility to live at Decatur Christian Towers. Currently, the lower income limits are $920.00 for a studio and $1,216.00 for a one-bedroom suite. If your monthly income is below these limits, Decatur Christian Towers would need a third-party signature guaranteeing the rent in order to consider your application. The upper income limit is $39,500 for and individual or $45,200 for a two persons. If your household income is above these limits, you would not be eligible for residency at Decatur Christian Towers.

  4. Do you accept Section 8?
    Decatur Christian Towers accepts Section 8 payments from the Housing Authority of the County of DeKalb, Georgia and the Housing Authority of the City of Decatur, Georgia. If you receive Section 8 from another housing authority, your Section 8 may be transferred to one of these two local housing authorities. In addition, Decatur Christian Towers has forty-three (43) Section 8 slots. To be added to the Decatur Christian Towers’ Section 8 waiting list, you must be a resident of Decatur Christian Towers. Currently the wait for Decatur Christian Towers’ Section 8 is about 3 years.

  5. How much is the rent?
    Decatur Christian Towers has two different apartments types: a studio and a one-bedroom suite. Each type apartment has a rent range, and a resident’s income, assets and out-of-pocket medical expenses are used to determine where the resident’s rent will fall within that range. A resident, unless on Section 8, will not pay less than the lower rent amount in the range or more than the upper rent amount in the range. The rent range for a studio is $460.00 to $516.00. The rent range for a one-bedroom suite is $608.00 to $682.00.

  6. Is your rent determined by your income?
    Yes. If you are a resident who is on Section 8 either with Decatur Christian Towers or a local housing authority, your rent is determined by calculating 30% of your adjusted gross income (gross income less out of pocket medical expenses). If you do not receive a Section 8 subsidy, your income, assets and out-of-pocket medical expenses are used to determine where rent amount falls in the current rent range for your apartment. (See question number 5)

  7. What is included in the rent?
    All utilities are included in the monthly rent, with the exception of telephone service. The utilities include electricity, water, sewage, trash disposal and "cable" television.

  8. Do you allow pets?
    Pets are allowed at Decatur Christian Towers. Dogs, cats, birds, fish and rodents, i.e. hamsters, gerbils, etc., are considered acceptable pets. All pet owners must sign a Pet Application and Pet Rules. A $300.00 pet deposit required for dogs and cats. Only one dog or one cat is permitted per unit and there is a 15-pound weight limit for a dog or cat. The pet deposit and weight limit are waived for service animals.

  9. Do you have two-bedroom apartments?
    No. Decatur Christian Towers has only studios and one-bedroom suites.

  10. Do you have on-site meals?
    No. Decatur Christian Towers is not equipped to prepare and serve meals to residents. Residents may receive meal delivery from Meals on Wheels, a service provided by Senior Connections, or from an outside catering source.

  11. Do you have health care or nursing?
    Decatur Christian Towers is a residential community for seniors and health care; therefore, nursing services are not provided. However, residents are welcome to have home health care or personal care assistants provide services for them in their apartments.

  12. Do you provide transportation?
    Decatur Christian Towers provides transportation for shopping and to grocery stores on a weekly basis. There is no charge to residents for this transportation. On Tuesdays, residents are taken shopping to places like Wal-Mart, Target, or local malls. The shopping options are varied, and occasionally trips are made to outlet malls and specialty stores. On Thursdays, residents visit two local grocery stores. We also schedule regular outings such as the monthly eat out or special outings like a trip to the Blue Willow Inn or to see holiday lights at Lake Lanier.

    No transportation is provided for medical appointments by Decatur Christian Towers. However, there are community resources available that will provide transportation to medical appointments for little or no cost to the resident. Our Director of Activities and Social Services can assist residents with these resources.

  13. Are you an assisted living facility?
    Decatur Christian Towers is not an assisted living facility. We are a residential community for senior citizens.
