DCT staff are committed to promoting independence and health physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. To do this a wide variety of activities are offered in the hopes of meeting the needs and interests of all our residents.

Group activities are planned and led by various people including staff, resident volunteers, outside volunteers and paid performers. If we do not already offer an activity in which someone is interested, we will be happy to help find someone who will.

As we grow older together, we mark each season with annual trips such as a drive to the mountains to buy apples and see the glorious colors of the leaves, a drive to Lake Lanier to enjoy the incredible holiday light display, and the popular trip to Social Circle to eat at the acclaimed Blue Willow Inn Restaurant.

In addition to seasonal trips, we celebrate the seasons with a cook out, a watermelon cutting, a fall festival, a flea market, our Anniversary Dinner, our Christmas Party, and the social event of the year - the Senior Prom!

Each month residents' birthdays are celebrated at a special birthday luncheon where we enjoy food and fellowship as we laugh and talk together. Regular monthly trips include a meal at one of the many local restaurants and our popular "Dine and Dance" trip to Northlake Mall where residents can eat, shop, dance or listen to the live band.

Weekly trips include the grocery store transport to Kroger and Super Giant and an additional shopping trip to various malls and discount stores.

Other trips are planned to appeal to the varied ethnic and cultural interests of our residents and we are always eager to receive suggestions. Please take a look at the sample calendar on our website to get a more detailed idea of just how hard we strive to meet the needs of the people who make DCT their home.

Examples of the resident-led activities that are currently being offered include: exercise class, Spanish class, an arts and crafts class, and the perennial Bingo game.

Worship services, a prayer ministry, and a Bible study are led by ministers from inside and outside the building as well as by some seminary students. Gentle Healthy Exercise is offered weekly at no charge to the residents.

Fresh vegetables are sold each Tuesday by Charlie the veggie man. Our Director of Social Services schedules guest speakers each month to keep residents informed on a wide range of topics including medical benefits, medical products and services, health issues and preventative measures and other subjects related to wellness.

Our Activities Director plans outings, parties and in-house activities with input and assistance from residents. We get together regularly to play games, have sing a longs, learn to dance the Electric Slide and just generally enjoy one another. Recently a Coke Float Party (with appropriate ingredients for diabetics) included Coke Trivia & History, as well as sharing Coke memories from our childhood. A gardening group helps maintain the beautiful landscaping and each resident who wishes may have a row in the resident vegetable garden. (This is plowed for them by our Director of Facilities.)

We strive to be a loving and caring community while respecting the individual and their privacy. All are encouraged to be part of the events and happenings but each resident determines their own level of participation with pressure from no one. Many residents report enjoying this easy access to socialization while having their personal space and privacy respected.
